Southern Belle Dress

This feminine classic is designed for lace, border, or ombre fabrics for a sheer outer layer quality (an “overdress” layer) over an opaque second fabric or lining (called “dress”), but can be equally beautiful in a single layer of comfortable cotton. The easy to fit bodice with midriff has below-elbow raglan sleeves with darts for good fit and mobility, is gathered under the bust and finished with self-fabric binding at the scooped neckline. Both views have the same full gathered skirt, but view A has a slightly angular hemline with godets great for a double edged galloon lace, and view B has a rounded hemline, best for fabrics without a straight-edge border design. Closure is a center back zipper. The waistline is accented with a tied or pinned ribbon embellishment.
